Since 1994,Mchenry Taekwondo Academy has been providing instruction to the McHenry, IL Area.
This side is designed to inform you about our facility, staff and our style.
McHenry Taekwondo Academy is the only one Taekwondo School in either Lake or McHenry counties that does the following:
-Officially certifies it's Black Belts.
-Has full-time instructors
-Has officially certified instructor on staff affiliated with the Pan American
-Affiliated with the Olympic program
-Follows the rule and guidelines set forth for competition by the Olympic Committe
-Has a padded safety work area.
-Affiliated with the U.S.T.U
-Affiliated with the W.T.F.
What is Taekwondo?
Taekwondo is an ancient Korean
martial art developed 2,000 years ago as unarmed self defense.
In ancient times, the teachers of the day were Buddhist monks. This was for two reasons:
- the monks were considered to be the spiritual leaders of the community & kingdoms. In addition to the unarmed and self-defense techniques they were learning and teaching, their ‘spiritual’ leadership was believed to greatly add to the physical dynamics being taught.
In other words, channeling internal strength and power would deliver a devastating or deadly blow to any opponent.
- the monks were considered to be the most learned individuals in the kingdoms as they devoted their entire lives to learning and teaching.
